Citizen Advocacy

A citizen Advocate is a volunteer who helps support another person to make their voice heard.

We find people who want to be volunteers and match them up with their Advocacy ‘partner’.

Click here for application formIf you want to be a Citizen Advocacy Volunteer you can download the application form by clicking on the picture.

When we receive your form we will contact you to come to the Advocacy office for a chat about becoming a volunteer.

You are required to attend the Advocacy Awareness Course before becoming a Citizen Advocate.

The course runs 2 times a year and each session lasts 2 hours. The course is accredited by the Open College Network and is free for anyone who goes on to become a volunteer for Advocacy.

On completion of the course we will meet with the volunteer and discuss the people who are waiting for a Citizen Advocate.

We will introduce you to the person you would be best suited to support. We offer ongoing support whenever needed and will check by phone every 3 months to see how things are going.

We organise support evenings where volunteers can talk about their experiences in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

We will pay any out of pocket expenses incurred when you are out with your Advocacy partner - travel, food, drinks etc.

Being a Citizen Advocacy Volunteer can be a very rewarding experience for both people involved – if you think you might want to be a volunteer but want to talk it over give us ring – (0191) 478 6472.
